Granite

Granite is a semi-porous natural stone. This means that granite countertops (if left unsealed) can absorb water, grease, or any other liquids, leaving visible permanent stains within the stone. HP Granite, Inc. highly recommends sealing all granite products after installation. HP Granite, Inc. offers a lifetime granite sealer to protect your granite from any stains or liquid absorption. Granite is very heat resistant stone—a hot pan from the oven can be set directly onto your granite countertops. The best ways to clean sealed granite are as follows: Windex with ammonia (classic blue Windex), Clorox bleach wipes, or preferred cleaners from our sealer company: Granite Shield.

Quartz

Quartz countertops are man-made products composed of roughly 90% natural ground quartz and approximately 10% of resins, polymers, and pigments. Quartz is not a porous stone, therefore it is not a product that has to be sealed. Quartz is heat resistant to a certain temperature, but it is not recommended to take pans directly out of the oven and set onto quartz countertops. Warm water and a mild soap can be used to clean quartz countertops.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a semi-porous natural stone product that is similar to granite in terms of hardiness and heat resistance. Quartzite is also prone to etching due to the natural calcite that occurs throughout the stone. HP Granite, Inc. highly recommends sealing all quartzite products to protect your quartzite from any stains or liquid absorption. The best way to clean natural quartzite countertops is with warm water and a pH neutral cleaner.

Marble

Marble is a semi-porous natural stone. With the natural components of marble being softer than granite, marble is in turn a less durable stone. Marble’s softness causes it to be more prone to bruising, etching, and denting. With marble’s porosity, we highly recommend sealing all marble products. HP Granite, Inc. offers a lifetime marble sealer to protect your marble from any stains. It does not protect against etching. The best way to clean natural marble countertops is with warm water and a pH neutral cleaner.
